The United States trademark registration of ‘The Lord of the Rings’
Federal trademark registration for “The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring” is set to begin in 2019.
The company behind the iconic fantasy epic has registered the domain name with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
This marks the second time the trademark has been registered by Warner Bros., who first filed for the trademark in 2011.
The trademark registration was confirmed by Warner Brothers Chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara on Sunday during the 2017 International Comic-Con International Convention in Los Angeles.
“The Fellowship of the Ring” features characters from the popular film trilogy and was released in 1977.
Warner Bros. has been working on developing a follow-up film for decades.
It is set for release in 2019 on a worldwide theatrical release and has already been distributed internationally.
“I am thrilled that Warner Bros.’ trademark for ‘The Fellowship Of the Ring’ will soon be the trademark for our brand,” Tsujishi said.
“This marks another milestone in our creative partnership, and we look forward to sharing more details on the film.”
Warner Bros.-owned Universal Pictures released the first of the four films in 1987 and the first three films in 1994.
Warner Brothers has been releasing the movies on home video and DVD.
